Mission
Over 250+ OLMC students every year are learning about their Catholic faith and every year the program grows. If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact us using the form below.
We no longer aim at just preparing our children and teens for the sacraments! We want to prepare them for a full Catholic Christian LIFE, by leading them to a personal encounter with Jesus through prayer, the Bible, and the Sacraments. Your child will grow in these areas year by year, little by little, eventually becoming an engadged adult member of the Catholic church.
Our progam has some thing for every age.
The program begins in the “Good Shepherd” kindergarten, where toddlers ages 3-6 explore our Christian faith through guided play (Montessori Classroom). This group meets on Sundays in the Old Convent basement after the 9:00 am Spanish Mass.
For grades 1 to 6, classes continue using the RCL Benziger bilingual textbooks "Be My Disciples." Most teachers for these grades are fluent in both English and Spanish. Students and parents are expected to attend Mass together. Attendance at Mass is monitored. These grades meet on Sunday at 10:15 am in the Old Convent and Church meeting room. Starting in the 3rd grade your child can, if ready, prepare for receiving 1st Communion.Confirmation preparation is a 3 year program! Starting in 7th grade your child will begin preparing for Confirmation. In 9th grade, if your child is ready, they can receive Confirmation. These years use a variety of resources from Ascention Press and Dynamic Catholic. During the year there are also mandatory retreats and service projects organized for the students. The confirmation preparation groups meet on Sundays at 4:30 pm in the Old Convent.
All teachers and teacher's aides in our program follow the safe enviroment guidlines of the Archdiocese of Newark. Everyone is required to have a background check and to be certified in "Protecting God's Children". The teachers also attend clases themselves to become certified Catechist by the Archdiocese of Newark.
